A Fair Medium Access Protocol Using Adaptive Flow-Rate Control Through Cooperative Negotiation Among Contending Flows in Ad Hoc Wireless Network with Directional Antenna

چکیده
Medium Access Control protocols proposed in the context of ad hoc networks primarily aim to control the medium access among contending nodes using some contention resolution schemes. However, these protocols do not necessarily guarantee a fair allocation of wireless medium among contending flows. Our objective in this paper is to adaptively adjust the flow-rates of contending flows, so that each gets fair access to the medium. This adaptive adjustment will also ensure high packet delivery ratio and optimal utilization of wireless medium. We use a deterministic approach to adaptively improve the performance of the suffered flows in the network through mutual negotiation between contending flows. In this paper we have also suggested the use of directional antenna to further reduce the contention between the flows in the wireless medium. The proposed scheme is evaluated on QualNet network simulator to demonstrate that our scheme guarantees fairness to all contending flows.

A Channel Adaptive Energy Efficient and Fair Scheduling Media Access Control Protocol for Mobile AdHoc Networks
Problem statement: A major drawback in the existing protocols in dealing with energy management issues is that the time varying nature of the wireless channels among the ad hoc nodes is ignored. Approach: This study proposed a channel adaptive energy efficient Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol, for efficient packets scheduling and queuing in an ad hoc network, with time varying characteristi...

The use of directional antennas in wireless ad hoc networks can significantly improve global performance due to a high spatial channel reuse. Nevertheless, its introduction poses new location dependent problems related to the MAC protocol. In this paper, the Balanced Incomplete Block Design theory has been exploited to develop a new MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc networks using directional ant...
متن کاملFlow rank based probabilistic fair scheduling for wireless ad hoc networks
Fair scheduling is an ideal candidate for fair bandwidth sharing and thereby achieving fairness among the contending flows in a network. It is particularly challenging for ad hoc networks due to infrastructure free operation and location dependent contentions. As there is no entity to serve coordination among nodes, we need a mechanism to overcome inherent unreliability of the network to provid...
متن کاملA Topology-Independent Fair Queueing Model in Ad Hoc Wireless Networks
Fair queueing of rate and delay-sensitive packet flows in a shared-medium, multihop wireless network remains largely unaddressed because of the unique design issues such as location-dependent contention, spatial channel reuse, conflicts between ensuring fairness and maximizing channel utilization, and distributed fair scheduling. In this paper, we propose a new topology-independent fair queuein...

The rising popularity of multimedia applications and potential commercial usage of Mobile Ad hoc network (MANET) clearly indicates that Quality of Service (QoS) support in MANETs is an unavoidable task. Essentially, Multimedia traffic should get preference over conventional data traffic during communication through some kind of priority-based mechanism to assure a timely and guaranteed delivery...
